Since its very inception landscape photography has examined the image of man’s environment. The main focus was always, and remains, to present an aesthetic landscape untouched by man.
The World Wide Web states that "landscapes are veritable objects of desire for both amateur as well as professional photographers. They speak of our desires for romance and harmony and create moods and atmospheres in a particularly impressive way." The perfect landscape pictures come from advice which you can’t ignore regarding the right camera, the correct aperture settings and the must-haves, but are preferably without a human footprint.
The photographer Sonja Bachmayer shows you the reverse side of the landscape in her project “Landscpae in a Mirror”, in effect the landscape behind the landscape.
A mirror makes it possible to not only observe yourself, but makes the reverse side behind the viewer or photographer visible. The sacred image of landscape is cancelled out by the REVERSE VIEW.
Even the photographer Sonja Bachmayer herself was surprised by how and what the medium of a mirror made visible.
The photographs were all created with the help of a real mirror (size 100x70 cm) which Sonja Bachmayer placed directly in to the "landscape", photographic post-editing was restricted to only minimal corrections.
