"Perceived Realities" is a project within FOTO WIEN 2025 and invites visitors to question the boundaries between classic photography and AI-generated imagery. Seven artists present a pair of images that challenge our trust in visual perception: What is real, what is illusion?
Visitors are actively encouraged to visualize their assessment of which image is "real" using colored sticky dots directly in the gallery. In doing so, the artists raise new questions: Is an AI-generated image less creative? Or are we currently experiencing the next stage of artistic evolution?
As part of FOTO WIEN's focus "Dynamic Futures," the exhibition reflects the rapid transformation of technology, art, and perception. Photography and AI are not in competition, but rather intertwine to create a new medium of the future—a hybrid space between documentation and imagination. Further insights and experiments can be found on Instagram at @perceived_realities.
